When linda and I got home from Blue Ridge yesterday the Koi pond was all but dry. There was probably 8 inches of water in it. The fish were struggling to keep their heads under water. It was really awful and if we had stayed in town longer they would have been dead by the time we got home. The largest of the fish weigh probably 15 or 20 pounds, they are huge and I have over a hundred Koi up there (more or less)! I had an old dip net that I used to catch the ones I could and carried them down to the smaller pond and put them in. They immediately dissapeared in to the murkey depths and I havn't seen them since. I guess they are alright. There are about 50 or more left up there and I don't know if I will be able to get them out before they die. Time will tell, I guess.
Dave came down this morning and sharpended many of my kitchen knives. They are so much better. Thanks Dave!
It has been really cold up here with the temperatures some mornings in the teens. No rain has exasperated the problems with the weather in general and complicates every thing considerably. The chickens are surviving very well and the dogs. The fish are suffering the most by far.
